Containment Floodup & Long-term Core Cooling
IRWST’s injection flows into the Reactor and begins to flood up containment. As the IRWST continues to drain, a low set point is reached which actuates containment recirculation. This creates a long-term cooling loop for colder water in-containment to be injected into the DVI line.
Heat generated throughout the event is rejected to the atmosphere through the Passive Containment Cooling System (PCS).
