Realizing Power Uprates
Challenge
Steam Dryers vibration and performance limits at higher energy output levels.
Based on analysis, the customer’s OEM Steam Dryers would be insufficient to handle the energy output at EPU (Extended Power Uprate) conditions.
Continuing the use of OEM Steam Dryers would result in flow induced vibration, acoustic resonance, and increased pressure drop at higher loads, resulting in damaged Steam Dryers and excessive moisture carry-over that would reduce the plant power output.
In order to realize the return on investment on power uprates a new solution was required.

Complex Plant System Operations
Challenge
Operators perform complex procedures during System Operations
Traditional methods involve operators using hundreds of manual and lengthy procedures to perform a variety of tasks such as maintenance, testing and system operations.
Current surveillance induces inoperable system which results in plant operational risk.
Automated Operator Aids
Our Solution
Automating previous Manual Operations of Safety Systems
Westinghouse collaborates with the customer and reviews plant procedures to determine what can be simplified and automated. WEC then utilizes a digital non-safety system to complement digital upgrades.
