Replace Obsolete SG Manipulator System
Challenge Equipment Obsolescence
The customer’s existing Steam Generator Manipulator system had multiple obsolete components and a replacement was required. The system needed to be able to perform inspection & maintenance activities including Automated Tube Plugging System (ATPS), Eddy Current Inspection (ET), TRUSTIE (UT) to the desired target tube plug locations.
The new system also needed to be reconfigurable to work with other size vessels and applications with the same manipulator resulting in reduced O&M costs.

Our Solution
Westinghouse leveraged a modular design approach to achieve design requirements along with its unique ability to be retrofitted for other future Balance of Plant (BOP) inspection areas.
The team designed 3 joint packages of increasing size that can be configured in any combination to allow the manipulator to deliver the required inspection, maintenance tooling to reach the tube locations in a specific vessel.
