deliver on VVER fuel needs

Westinghouse has made significant investments in the design & manufacturing of VVER fuel through the establishment of a diverse supply chain and an increased manufacturing capacity at our European facilities. We continue to enhance the designs to support ease of fuel loading, reduced pressure drop, improved thermal performance margins (DNB), and mitigation of fuel rod fretting. This enables improved economics for operation in all European plants.

Developing new methods for VVER fuel
Westinghouse adapted the PWR Core Physics methods for the Hexagonal design of VVER fuel. Using the Westinghouse Critical Heat Flux (CHF) test loop, several DNB correlations have been implemented into our coding to bracket an array of VVER designs and thermal hydraulic conditions. As a benefit this allows an increase in the current core design limit by 3% without any restrictions.
